Typically, the library does not keep textbooks in the library's main collection. However, there are a few ways to check out textbooks.
Faculty have the option to make print copies of textbooks available for limited checkout periods (typically 3 hours) to ensure access for everyone. You'll need to know your course name (typically a four-letter abbreviation and number like BIOL 2420) or professor's name.
Click on the "More search options" link right under the Quick Search box to get started.
Then type in your course ID (usually four letters plus four numbers, ex. BIOL 2401) or instructor name. If you see your course or instructor name, click on the correct row in the result list.
This example below shows what a print textbook on reserve looks like. The green dot and "available" label indicates that the book can be checked out.
Some classes have adopted Creative Commons or Open Textbooks which means you can access and use your textbooks for free! You can search the course catalog and add a Zero Textbook Cost filter to see which classes have this feature!
Or you can also check in the course listings and this attribute will be noted on the applicable classes.
