Counseling Research Guide:Tests and Measures

Finding Reviews of Tests

One of the most comprehensive sources with reviews on various tests and measurements is the Mental Measurements Yearbook and Tests in Print. The Bell Library provides digital access as well as physical access to these resource.

Accessing a Copy of Test of Measurement

Oftentimes, it is beneficial to not only read reviews or insights about a particular test or measurement but to also access the resource itself. Accessing these tools can be a challenge, but not impossible in many cases.

Here are some tips you can try to access tests or measurements:

  • Google Search - I have had the most success in locating these tools by conducting a series of Google searches. Admittedly, this usually takes a bit of sleuthing...but then again, good research usually does. Enter the test or measurement as a Google search and explore, you may be pleasantly surprised.
  • Research Articles - You may often find research that has been conducted using a particular test or measurement. If an appendix is included in the research document, they will often include copies of the test or measurement used. Alternatively, the body of the article itself may detail the test or measurement to an incredibly informative degree.
  • Contact the Author or Publisher - If a test is not commercially available, referred to as "unpublished," you may need to contact the author of the test for permission to access/use. Alternatively, if the test or measurement has been published it is unfortunately often hidden behind a pay wall and you will need to purchase the test or measurement for access.
