Designed by the textbook industry, Inclusive Access is a sales model that adds the cost of digital course content into students’ tuition and fees—in other words, automatic textbook billing. While the advertised benefits of these programs have been widely promoted, there are also drawbacks for students and faculty that deserve equal attention. Join this special Open Education Week webcast to get the facts on what Inclusive Access programs mean for your campus, explore how they differ from open models like OER, and examine whether Inclusive Access is "inclusive" at all.

Presented by Cara Lee and Jess Brooks from Portland Community College, this interactive presentation will share concrete examples of diverse representation in a math class for liberal arts using open educational resources (OER), including biographies, names, pronouns and racial context.

A lunch-and-learn discussion on the quality of Open Educational Resources (OER). Join Dan Cockcroft (OER librarian), Dr. Connie Blomgren (Assistant Professor, Distance Education), Michael Dabrowski (Academic Coordinator, Spanish), Dr. David Annand (Professor, Accounting), and Dr. Dietmar Kennepohl (Professor, Chemistry) to discuss common questions and misconceptions surrounding the quality of open resources.

On the verge of its tenth anniversary, the B.C. Open Textbook Collection is about to hit an incredible milestone in student savings. In this session we will outline the growth of the collection, highlighting significant milestones of the past 10 years. We will talk about the challenges we faced creating the collection, how both the collection and the processes associated with managing and growing the collection have evolved, and the many lessons we learned along the way while managing a system-wide open textbook initiative.
