Several factors determine how much information will be available on a specific company.
Public or private - Public companies, which sell stock on American stock exchanges, have to provide much more information about their operations to both their shareholders and the Securities and Exchange Commission. Private companies, by contrast, don't have the same requirements.
Size of company - Larger companies will be easier to find information on than small ones.
Location - In general, you will be able to find more information on U.S. companies than international companies.
Newsworthiness - If a company is in the news, you will be more likely to be able to find information about it.
