Join Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi as we celebrate this week-long exploration of illustrious creatures that swim the deep blue, our friend the shark!

Throughout this guide, you'll find a variety of resources. Feel free to explore and learn more as you go. In the infamous words of Jaws (1975), "You'll never go in the water again!"...Or, you'll dive even deeper into the world of marine life - either way, we support you!

 

 

Special Shark Week Events

Celebrate Student Research

Mary and Jeff Bell Library, ­2nd Floor | Monday, July 21 at 2 p.m.

Join us for lightning round presentations of current projects, followed by a panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Daniel Coffey. Want to learn more about shark research from our Islanders? Here’s your chance! The celebration, which includes a Q&A session and refreshments, will be held on Monday, July 21st, at 2 p.m. on the second floor of the Bell Library, near Special Collections and Archives.

I-Create Fossil Pit

Mary and Jeff Bell Library, ­2nd Floor, I-Create Lab | Monday – Friday, During I-Create Lab's Open Hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.)

Search for your own Miocene age shark’s teeth and other marine fossils in I-Create’s Fossil Pit! You may discover the remains of ancient sharks, whales, bony fish, and coral just to name a few.  The fossiliferous material is from the Pliocene Yorktown and Miocene Pungo River Formations. Walk the Plank!

Mary and Jeff Bell Library, 2nd Floor, Immersive Reality Lab | Monday – Wednesday, 1 - 3 p.m.

How’s your sense of balance? Are you afraid of the fall? Test your nerve in the Immersive Reality Lab on the second floor of the Mary and Jeff Bell Library as we host a high adrenaline come-and-go activity that includes an immersive and mesmerizing experience with grey nurse sharks at Fish Rock Cave off Australia’s Eastern Coastline, and hand feeding tiger sharks in Fiji.

Shark Week Display

Du dun, du dun, du-dun du-dun du-dun, it’s Shark Week!! Trust your library to have a Book Display ready and waiting with a number of print books about sharks. All books are available for FREE check out. Just grab a book, or books, you’re interested in, stop by the Circulation Desk with you Islander ID (or some form of photo ID), and check out your book(s) of choice! The display will be up from July 14 – August 1.
