Typically when looking for a specific item, it's ideal to know (or be able to refer to) the following information:
- The title or author of a book, thesis, or a video when searching for print books, ebooks, theses or dissertations, or movies.
- The name of a journal when searching for a specific journal.
- The article title, the author(s), and possibly the journal title, newspaper name, or magazine name when searching for journal, newspaper, or magazine articles.
- The four letter and four number course abbreviation (ex. BIOL 1308) and instructor name when searching for items on reserve.
- The title, editor(s), and edition when searching for a textbook.
Knowing where to look or what specific finding tool to use is the second important thing to know.
- Use Quick Search to find books and ebooks, videos, articles, theses and dissertations, and generally anything in the library's holdings.
- Use Quick Search (with appropriate filters) to find articles, videos, and theses and dissertations across all library databases.
- Click on the Databases button to access individual databases to search for articles, videos, dissertations and theses, and more. (See the Choosing Individual Databases box for more details!)
